Brecon is main market town in far south of county of Powys and still maintains many traditional facilities associated with a rural area. Brecon has a popular theatre, and cathedral and hosts a world renowned jazz festival in early August. The Green Man festival is in the third weekend of August based just outside Brecon in the Glan Usk Estate. There is a well regarded Farmers Market in the Market Hall each second Saturday of the month.

Fans of the film Zulu may wish to visit The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh or if you simply wish to take a day out and watch a movie then there is a 2 screen cinema which shows the latest movies.

Brecon is also a terminus for the Brecon & Monmouthshire canal which runs for 35 miles from Brecon via Crickhowell to Pontymoile and onto Cwmbran. Boat hire and guided tours are available from the Brecon Canal basin outside the theatre.
